D2D and censorship

All my books, and published-for-sale, short stories have now migrated over to Draft2Digital from Smashwords.

All are now available from possibly a wider range of retailers than Smashwords supplied, including Amazon. Although we will see how that goes. ‘Fine in June’ (one of my best sellers) was released to Amazon, which took a reformatting and some alterations before they would release it, and then it never sold. I withdrew it and closed my Amazon account. So we will see if Amazon generate any sales for me this time. I’m not hopeful.

However, two books, two of my favourites, are banned from everywhere but Smashwords distribution.

So why is this? It’s down to their content.

Alternate Timelines‘ features a young couple, old enough to legally get married, old enough to legally have full-time jobs, old enough to legally live away from their parents, all of which they do, all with their parent’s blessing. But not old enough apparently to be depicted having sex as part of a loving, consensual relationship.

Denise: MILF vs Wife‘ – ooooh so naughty. In this, Rose, the wife, has sex with her husband whilst her sister, Petunia, joins in. Someone (not wanting to give away too many spoilers) might just lick someone else. And in doing that, someone might just transgress a boundary that is one step, one lick, too far for the world’s smutty ebook publishers.

Perhaps I should give up and write murder mysteries and describe all manner of illegal, bloody, murderous acts. That’s OK to publish. Legal, loving, consensual sex acts aren’t.

It’s a strange world we live in.
